Giving Opportunities

Did you know that you can double or triple your donation to Vermont Adaptive through our matching donation program? Many employers sponsor matching gift programs. Find out if yours does here.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a centralized charitable account. It allows charitably-inclined individual, families and businesses to make tax-deductible charitable donations of cash, publicly-traded stock and in some case, certain illiquid assets, to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.

Gifts of Stocks and Mutual Funds are a great way to support our Programs. When you make a gift of publicly-traded securities to Vermont Adaptive, you potentially save income tax and capital gains tax, too.

A gift of publicly-traded securities could be right for you if:

  • You own publicly-traded securities that you have owned for at least one year.
  • Some of these securities have increased in value since you bought them.
  • Some of these securities may provide you with little or no income.
  • You would like to make a gift to Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports

How it works

  • You transfer shares of one or more publicly-traded securities, such as stock, bonds, and mutual funds, to Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports

How to Make a Gift of Stock, Mutual Funds or ACH/Wire of Cash

IMPORTANT – The steps needed to ensure proper processing and timely acknowledgement of donations made via stock, mutual funds, ACH’s and wires include:

  • Initiate the stock transfer. Alert Kip Dalury, Business Manager, of the intent to make a donation. Kip can be reached at 802.786.4991 ext. 22.
  • Provide names of securities (if stock or mutual funds) and estimated amount before the transfer is completed so we can alert our broker.
  • Provide names of owner(s) of the shares of stock and mutual funds
  • We are happy to work directly with your broker or trust officer. Please contact us!

Kellen Sams was a great outdoor spirit, teacher and avid adventurer. But most importantly, he was a compassionate friend to all he met. Tragically, despite preparedness, the highest safety measures, and years of training and experience, Kellen lost his life in an avalanche in February of 2010 while backcountry skiing the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.

In honor of Kellen’s commitment to outdoor experiential education of the highest quality, the Kellen Sams Memorial Leadership Award was established at Green Mountain College in 2014 and then transferred to Vermont Adaptive in 2019. The purpose of the award is to further Kellen’s legacy by providing recognition for those Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports staff, volunteers and interns who show the greatest commitment to professional development and leadership within the organization.

In addition, Vermont Adaptive staff, volunteers and interns are encouraged to apply for a Kellen Sams Memorial Scholarship. The Memorial Scholarship is a financial scholarship awarded to Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports staff, volunteers and interns to assist in each individual’s efforts to pursue personal development within outdoor and experiential education for all abilities. Other Ways to Give

Each year Vermont Adaptive participates in the global initiative known as Giving Tuesday. Annually, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is a global day dedicated to giving back. #GivingTuesday follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday with the goal of celebrating generosity and encouraging people to give during the holiday season. It was created to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes that they support and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping. Your donations during this time help us to continue to provide year-round sports and recreation for people with disabilities. Stay tuned for details for #GivingTuesday 2024.
