Hi! My name is Julia Pepper and I started as an intern at Vermont Adaptive this past fall. I am currently a junior psychology major and sports management minor at the University of Vermont and have absolutely loved working at Vermont Adaptive so far!
During the fall session, I was mainly getting to know the Vermont Adaptive space, learning how it all works, and meeting all the admin and athletes. I loved biking in the fall and so far I love the winter season. I currently am learning how to ski so my day-to-day looks a lot different from the interns going out and mentoring or shadowing lessons on the slopes.
I work out of the Bolton program office and my day-to-day duties include working on the behind-the-scenes of how Vermont Adaptive runs its lessons. I work on filling in information for the rental shop and who needs what rentals. I update lessons and if anyone makes any changes. I work on the transaction sheet, who pays, and with what payment. I also work on organizing the filing cabinet with all the athletes profiles; checking to see if they have a profile, throwing out duplicates, and if they don’t have a profile, making one for them. I also work on updating school group profiles. I work on organizing around the office space.
I also greet athletes and volunteers and make sure they go through the precautionary measures before going out on the slopes. I work behind the desk and answer any questions people could have. I love working behind the scenes of Vermont Adaptive because it really shows the hard work that people put into running a non-profit that some people don’t see. I am learning so many valuable skills that will definitely help me with future jobs. Soon I will be able to mentor lessons, I just have to learn how to ski first! But for the time being, I love working behind the scenes and helping Vermont Adaptive put on lessons for all athletes.
