THE HISTORY OF VERMONT ADAPTIVE SKI & SPORTS

KILLINGTON, Vt. – Imagine being a person with a disability and having the desire to either learn to ski with that disability or be re-taught how to ski because the disability occurred after learning how to ski as a person without a disability. Prior to 1987, little if no resources were available for Vermont residents with disabilities to do just that. However that year, along came the first ever disabled skiing program in Vermont. With Ascutney Mountain Resort in Brownsville as a playing field, now people of all ages and abilities could benefit not only from the great outdoors and all that the mountains and skiing had to offer, but the program on a larger scale promoted the beneficial aspects associated with sports and recreation. More than 20 years later, Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports is the only organization in the state to offer daily adaptive sports programs for individuals with disabilities. MORE
