SEASONAL ACTIVITIES > SUMMER PROGRAMS > Sailing

Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports in collaboration with the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center run an Adaptive Watersports Program (AWP) on Lake Champlain. Based out of the beautiful waterfront of Burlington Vermont, this program offers a wide variety of sailing, canoeing and kayaking opportunities.
(See Canoeing and Kayaking section of the website for more information on those programs.) Participation in a sport like sailing builds confidence and self esteem, while it challenges the whole person. The AWP’s mission is to provide watersports opportunities for everyone, regardless of disability, age, ability to pay and at all levels from supervised recreational sailing to independent racing competition.
The Sailing Center and Vermont Adaptive are bustling with activity all summer long offering a range of programs. Instruction is available for the first time sailor, someone who’s content being a passenger rather than “man the lines” or the competitive sailor excited to try his hand at racing the Martin 16. For the seasoned sailor private rentals are available to enjoy the freedom of being on the water.
With 3 Sonars (one fitted for accessibility), several Rhodes 19s and the Martin 16 there’s always plenty of space for large groups or individual outings. The sailing season starts mid June and to mid September with lesson reservations available midweek and weekend lessons may be possible. Boats are also available for private rental to the experienced sailor.
