(KILLINGTON, WARREN and BOLTON, Vt. – April 16, 2010) – – Maggie Burke, program coordinator at Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, the only organization in the state to offer daily, year-round sports programming to people with disabilities, has been invited to the White House next Wednesday to take part in the President’s celebration of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Members of the two teams, as well as other special guests and political figures, will take to the South Lawn of the White House, to be greeted and congratulated by President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. Kids of Courage Bring Upwards of 30 Children with Serious Medical Diagnoses to Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports to Learn to Ski
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2010) – Upwards of 30 children who battle for their lives on a daily basis continued to conquer their illnesses through adventure yesterday as they took to the ski slopes of Sugarbush Resort in Waitsfield, Vt. Utilizing the specifically-trained volunteers from Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, the only year-round disabled sports program with daily programming in Vermont, Kids of Courage and its entourage of more than 100 physicians, paramedics, nurses, physical therapists, and specially trained lay staff helped these kids forget the tubes, pumps and needles that go along with their personal daily challenges—and taught them to ski. The Civic Projects Makes Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports Its First Stop on Jan. 4, 2010 as Part of Its 50-Day, 50-State Tour
KILLINGTON, WARREN and BOLTON, Vt. (Dec. 14, 2009)— – Volunteering for and working with Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports clients at Pico Mountain on Monday, Jan. 4 will be the first stop on a 14,000-mile cross country journey for Kirsten L’Orange and Tim Malcom. Founders of The Civic Projects, the two are on a trek to promote social awareness and service by volunteering at 50 community organizations
in 50 states in 50 days. The two will spend their time on the slopes of Pico Mountain, helping individuals with disabilities enjoy skiing and other winter pursuits.

This rewarding opportunity allows members of the Vermont community to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities seven days a week. Vermont Adaptive relies heavily on its more than 400 volunteers to provide and support more than 2,000 lessons to people with physical, cognitive and emotional or behavioral disabilities on an annual basis. The 10th Annual VT APTA Golf Tournament is just one of the many fundraisers Vermont Adaptive relies on each year in order to provide daily, year-round programming to people with disabilities. KILLINGTON, WAITSFIELD and BOLTON, Vt. (July 16, 2009) ? – Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports announced today that it has been named a grant recipient of the 2009 Olympic Opportunity Fund. Awarded by the U.S. Olympic Committee, the Olympic Opportunity Grant Program was started in 2007 to provide financial assistance to sport organizations across the United States. This year, the program was open to Paralympic Sport Clubs, USOC Paralympic member organizations, as well as veteran and military organizations with primary focus of developing Paralympic programs that serve injured military personnel and veterans. KILLINGTON, Vt. (June 25, 2009) ? – As the sun rises on 300 runners in this year?s Vermont 100 Endurance Race on Saturday July 18th, participants will experience weather, friendship, exhaustion, and hope during their grueling run through covered bridges, ski mountain trails, backroads, and the hills of Vermont. For a lucky fast few, there will be only one sunrise; however many will run through the day, night and through a second sunrise to finish Sunday morning. In order to officially complete the only ultra marathon left in the country that includes people and equestrian riders participating at the same time, racers must make the 30 hour cut-off time. There?s no teamwork in this race so runners and riders compete individually. On July 18-19, that in itself will be the challenge. MORE

Vermont Adaptive Executive Director Erin Fernandez has named Anna Davis, CTRS, as the new program coordinator at Bolton. This past weekend at Pico Mountain at Killington and Sugarbush Resort in Warren, many of those dedicated people took part in the organization's annual training program, where they began to learn how to guide for the visually impaired and blind, adapt a sit for and individual who uses a wheelchair, and how to empower other people with disabilities to enjoy adaptive sports.
