Become a Winter Volunteer!
What is Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports? Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities. We promote independence and further equality through access and instruction to sports and recreational activities.
Where can I volunteer in the Winter? Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports has 3 locations in Vermont for winter sports: - Pico Mountain – In Killington, VT - Sugarbush Resort - Bolton Valley
What are the benefits to volunteering? For each day you volunteer you get a free ski ticket to the mountain you volunteered at!
What skills do I need? You must be an advanced skier, boarder, or tele skier! (No beginners please!) You will be assisting with an active ski lesson, so you must also be physically fit enough to sometimes help folks up when they fall, assist with adaptive equipment, and must be willing to commit to either a full or half day of volunteer ski instruction.
What if I am Advanced Skier…But have no experience ski or snowboard instructing or working with people with disabilities? No Problem, we will train you! We ask volunteers to attend THREE training days. - Off snow training: attend one of the many we offer in November. They cover disability awareness, program logistics and orientation - Skiing and Riding 101: How to teach a ski or board lesson - You choose a discipline: Blind Guiding, Developmental Disabilities, Sit Down Equipment or Snowboarding. It’s up to you! - Can’t make it to the trainingThat’s okay! You can shadow lessons with our experienced trainers until you are comfortable teaching.
YOU WILL NEVER BE ON A LESSON ALONE.
What type of time commitment do I have to make? None. Once you do the training we do not require any specific number of days, but remember, the more days you volunteer, the more free ski time you get. Also we obviously require you to show up on the days you commit to volunteering.
How do I sign up? Go to Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports website at http://www.vermontadaptive.org/volunteerapp.html and fill out our Volunteer Application.
