SEASONAL ACTIVITIES > SUMMER PROGRAMS > Canoeing & Kayaking
Canoeing and Kayaking have been popular Vermont Adaptive programs for the past 15 years.
The benefits? - Socializing - Exercising - Experiencing nature - Testing personal limits - Learning something new - Paddling equipment can be easily adapted to meet the needs of any disability and often no adaptations are necessary. - Using standard equipment opens a world of opportunities for individuals of all disabilities.
Paddling is a sport that emphasizes ability. Skill is determined by ability and attitude, whether the paddler is able-bodied or disabled. The freedom offered by paddling pushes aside the barriers presented by disabilities. Water is the ultimate equalizer.
Currently Vermont Adaptive has three thriving canoe and kayak programs.
Stoughton Pond - Southeastern Vermont Our longest running program, canoeing and kayaking here takes place Monday through Wednesday throughout the summer and serves clients from southeastern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire.
Lake Champlain Community Sailing - Northern Vermont Our northern canoe and kayak programs are part of the Adaptive Watersports Program located at the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center on the Burlington waterfront. Clients come from all over the state to enjoy a day of paddling on Lake Champlain or even to make a weekend of it with canoeing one day, sailing, tandem cycling or maybe even indoor rock climbing the next.
Chittenden Reservoir - Central Vermont Our newest program is located in central Vermont. Program days are currently Wednesdays and Thursdays but will increase as our clients do.
